Baudrillard, Jameson, and Best highlight the role of simulacra in a postmodern world where visual media predominates; the boundary between the real and fantasy is blurred; simulation replace different aspects of everyday life; and the value of everything and everyone is measured by their capacity to become merchandise and plasticity. This panel seeks papers that explore any of these aspects in postmodern fiction and asks whether and how the human element can be recovered in a hyperreal world. Please send 250-word abstracts to Ines.Shaw@ncc.edu.
