Call for Abstracts:
Transitions: Revolution, Counterrevolution, and the Future of “The Arab Spring”
Palma, the refereed journal of Notre Dame University—Louaize, Lebanon, is issuing a call for abstracts for its upcoming issue titled "Transitions: Revolution, Counterrevolution, and the Future of ‘The Arab Spring.'" Abstract submissions for future articles from a variety of academic disciplines and theoretical perspectives will be considered for publication.
Summary: Current events in the Arab world highlight the need for scholarly and theoretical understanding of social, religious and political change, reform processes, and counterrevolutions. The problem of multiple paths ahead is a mainstay of revolutionary theory and is at the heart of current dilemmas in the Arab world, the main rationale behind this issue of Palma. Discussions about the nature of revolution in politics, culture, and the arts, in specific cases or from a comparative perspective, is essential for a deeper understanding of a transnational Arab region undergoing systemic change. Authors are invited to address a range of topics, including but not limited to:
-Roots of revolution: political, economic, cultural
-Democratic transitions in comparative perspective: Latin America and Eastern Europe
-Revolution in literature, language and the arts
-Religious fundamentalism and counterrevolution
-Past and current uses of technology and media
-Postmodernism and the end of grand narratives
To make a submission please send an abstract of 250-300 words by June 15, 2012, to palma@ndu.edu.lb. All abstracts submitted will be reviewed by Palma’s Editorial Board, with a final research article deadline of September 1, 2012, in time for Palma’s Fall issue.
