Impressions of Ottoman Culture in Europe: 1453-1699 explores the impact of Ottoman material culture on pre-modern Europe in the aftermath of the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople. The lecture is based on a new publication by the same name, which has been the result of more than six years of research in fourteen European countries by the renowned Turkish scholar Nurhan Atasoy and her co-author Lale Ulu. There is particular focus on the European artistic response to the flow of Ottoman works of art that widely circulated as a result of intense political, diplomatic, and trade relations.
