Second Call for Papers
‘DOING HISTORY’
The Historical Association of South Africa Biennial Conference
University of Pretoria
6 – 7 July 2012
This year’s biennial conference of the Historical Association of South Africa (HASA) will focus on the different facets of “Doing History”. It is a call for historians in their respective fields of specialisation to share their research and experiences. The aim is also to give the post-graduate cohort of the historical fraternity a forum where they will be exposed to the wealth and depth of the discipline, while also being able to present papers to a forum of experienced colleagues. The organisers invite proposals for papers, panels and workshops highlighting aspects of the historical craft around the broad theme of ‘Doing History’. These may include, but are by no means limited to the following:
o Historiographies
o Theories
o Methodologies
o Conventional and alternative sources
o Archives and other collections
o Writing papers, articles and monographs
o New and old histories
o Specific research topics
o Case studies
o Obstacles and overcoming them
o Genres
Keynote speakers: Prof Ian Phimister (University of Sheffield) & Prof Bill Nasson (University of Stellenbosch).
The conference will be held on the Main Campus (Hatfield) at the University of Pretoria from 6 to 7 July 2012. The conference registration fee been kept to an absolute minimum (R750.00 with students R500.00) to encourage participation. Limited funding will also be available to part sponsor accommodation for postgraduate students. Papers presented at the conference will be considered for possible publication in Historia, HASA’s accredited journal. Students that wish to enter the Post graduate student award for best conference paper must submit a full version of the conference paper before 15 June.
