A result of international cooperation fostered by the Visegrad Fund, the conference: “East Central Europe in Exile: Patterns of Transatlantic Migrations” will take place from May 31st to June 3rd, 2012 in Gdańsk, Poland. The conference has attracted well over fifty scholars from thirteen different countries. The planned debates will revolve around issues relating to causes of transatlantic migrations, emigrants’ travel and adaptation experiences, assimilation and acculturation processes, the political activities of émigrés, as well as East Central European cultural and artistic manifestations in the Americas. The conference papers will be published in an English-language edited volume. The Honorary Patrons of the conference are the Rector of the University of Gdańsk, the Hungarian Embassy in Warsaw, and the Pomerania Province Voivode. In addition to the Visegrad Project Partners: the University of Gdansk, the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Charles University of Prague, the Historical Archives of the Hungarian State Security, many East Central European and American scholarly and cultural institutions have joined in and are now actively involved in preparations for the conference-related events.
