NEW MSC IN TRANSLATION STUDIES: TRANSLATION AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

The University of Glasgow is now accepting applications for its new MSc in Translation Studies!
The course, which begins in September, was developed in light of the increasing need for highly skilled and specialist translators globally and across a wide range of industries.
The new MSc at Glasgow will provide students with:
• an excellent platform upon which to begin a career as a professional translator
• an essential theoretical foundation for those wishing to research in the field of Translation Studies at doctoral level
It is suitable for students wanting to study translation into English from one or more of the following languages: French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

THE CORE MODULES
Semester 1: Translation Studies in Theory and Practice (including history, theory and methodology)
Semester 2: Translator’s Toolkit (introduction to the practical world of translation: freelance and agency work, translation technology including SDL Trados certification)
MANDATORY TRANSLATION CLASSES
Students will take Advanced Translation and Language Study classes across the two semesters:
• these will be in small language-specific groups
• students will gain experience of translating a wide range of text types from technical to literary or journalistic, for example
OPTIONS
Students will also choose an additional option each semester from a wide range of language and content courses across the University.
