The Association for Learning and Preserving the History of WWII in Asia (ALPHA) will be holding a fundraising banquet on Friday, April 27, 2012, to raise funds for our annual Peace and Reconciliation Study Tour. Each year, the Edmonton chapter of ALPHA assists teachers from Alberta in travelling to Asia to meet survivors of the Nanjing Massacre, Korean victims of forced sexual slavery (comfort women), and Japanese scholars who are struggling to teach the history of Japanese aggression during WWII in their own country.
The banquet will be held at the Century Dynasty Restaurant (reception at 6:00pm) in Edmonton (#206 (upstairs), 9700 – 105 Avenue) and will include a reception, silent auction, dinner, entertainment, and a special guest appearance by Edmonton's own Olivia Cheng. Ms. Cheng is a former Edmonton Global TV news reporter and actress in the Canadian-made docudrama" Iris Chang: The Rape of Nanking'. She also starred alongside Robert Duvall in "Broken Trail" and has appeared on "Arctic Air". Local entertainer Purple Davis will also perform, as will members of Edmonton Chinese Bilingual Program. The evening will also include sharing by teachers who have participated in past tours as well as by Toronto ALPHA's Executive Director Flora Chong. A fun filled evening for a good cause!
Tickets are $50 each (cash only) and can be purchased by contacting Krista Li at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 780-756-8781. A Tax receipt can be issued for two or more tickets. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you!
