Friendship in the Atlantic World, 1750-1800
Summary
Dr. Colin Nicolson (University of Stirling, Scotland) is seeking European partners with experience of American studies to join him in making an application for project funding to Humanities in the European Research Area (HERA) for up to €1 million. HERA in collaboration with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and eighteen other European national funding organisations and the European Commission has issued a call for a €18 Million research funding opportunity for arts and humanities academics. This Joint Research Programme (JRP) call is intended to enable large trans-national Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs) to increase understanding of “Cultural Encounters”.
The project aims to undertake a cultural, social, and political history of friendship in the North American Colonies. Nicolson is seeking European partners to contribute empirical studies historicizing friendship in the Atlantic World that utilize the rich resources of European archives.
Practicalities
• Participating countries: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom.
• Must involve 3 or more PI’s in 3 or more participating countries
• Deadline for OUTLINE: 4 May 2012, 13:00 UK time, online submission
• Max. funding requested 1 million Euro per bid
• Max. duration 36 months
• Start date before June 2013
