The history department at Columbus State University solicits papers and panel proposals for a conference [19-20 October 2012] centered on irregular warfare during the Civil War. We welcome a wide variety of topics dealing broadly with organized non-uniformed groups operating outside the confines of military discipline waging a civilian “people’s war” and the effects of irregular war on (1) national policy and the conduct of the war and (2) its social, political, and economic impact on local areas. Papers examining efforts combating irregulars are also welcome.
Proposals should include a one-page CV for each participant and an abstract of no more than 300 words for each paper. Panel proposals should also include a 100-word overview of the panel and its relationship to the conference theme.
The conference begins on Friday afternoon with a dinner and social followed the next day with panels, papers, and our keynote speaker, Prof. Daniel Sutherland, followed by dinner.
