We are organizing a small symposium in mid April, 2013 at the Monash Centre in Prato to explore continuities and changes in the correspondence between mothers and daughters over this extended period. We wish to investigate the ways in which mother-daughter relationships were mediated through correspondence in different periods. We are interested both in questions of form and in the changing possibilities opened up in, and through, letters between mothers and daughters over time. In addition to the letters produced in actual familial relationships, we also welcome papers between religious and spiritual mothers and daughters.
