From April 12-14, 2012, The University of Iowa is pleased to host the international conference, “Visions of the Future: Global Science Fiction Cinema.” The event will consist of two public keynote lectures (N. Katherine Hayles, Professor of Literature, Duke University and Thomas Lamarre, Professor of East Asian Studies and Communications Studies, McGill University); six academic panels featuring scholars from around the world; a WorldCanvass radio and TV broadcast on global science fiction; and four public film screenings, one of which will feature award-winning filmmaker Alex Rivera.
