Learning From Mistakes: The History of Failure and the Failure of History

Papers will be accepted on a broad range of topics. Papers may address but are by no means limited to the following list of themes:
Political/Diplomatic failure
Economic/Business Failure
Failed Revolutions
Environmental failure/Natural Disaster
Failures in Imperialism and (de)colonisation
Failure in Religious Movements or Reformations
Failure within Communities/Networks
Periodisation, 'Golden' ages and Metanarratives
Essentialism versus Difference in the Histories of Social Groups
Forgetting and Misrepresentation of the Past
Subjectivity and Ideology
Popularisation of History
Dangers of Deconstruction
Teaching History
We would like to organise one panel specifically on ‘business/economic failure’, proposals which speak to this theme are very welcome. We encourage papers from Post-Graduate students; however papers from Academic staff or Independent researchers will also be considered.
Each paper proposal should include a brief abstract (no more than one page) and a short description of your current research project or research interests. Papers given will be a maximum of 20 minutes in length. Any questions regarding submissions should be directed to Emily Buchnea [ahxeb@nottingham.ac.uk].
The deadline for paper proposal submissions is Friday 6th of April, 2012.
