This call for papers is for a special Westerns panel at the upcoming Midwest Popular Culture Association conference. The next meeting of the MPCA will take place Friday-Sunday, October 12-14 at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel in Columbus, OH. I am interested in papers dealing with Westerns and the West in graphic novels and video games. Papers dealing with Western themes, settings, archetypes, etc. in video games and graphic novels that are not set in the traditional landscape or era of the Western are also encouraged. The idea here is to open up a discussion of the Western that is not limited to films, TV shows, novels, and short stories, while also allowing for the inclusion of Western influences on other genres.
