We are looking for papers on cultures of fertility in subpopulations from the perspective of medical anthropology or compositional demography.
Changing cultures of fertility within sub-populations:
• Alternative reproductive strategies as adjuncts of family
arrangements, changing values attached to children or cosmologies of procreation
• Changing life cycles and fertility, stigma, notably issues of no, too few, too many children
• Medicalisation of reproduction
Comparing Populations and Sub-Populations:
• The significance of fertility for sub-populations characterised by different socio-economic class, caste or ethnic status
• Group formation and fertility: For instance newly emerging social
units that alter reproductive dynamics (migrant groups, new group
identities based on their health status)
A volume arising from the series will be considered for FRSG’s series with Berghahn Books or Oxford University Press.
Venue: Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Oxford University, UK
Date: Oct – Dec 2012
send abstracts: till 13 May
