CALL FOR PAPERS
41st Annual Conference on South Asia
University of Wisconsin-Madison
October 11-14, 2012
Papers invited for panel entitled ‘Practices of modernity in South Asia’
Postcolonial studies has shown that local iterations of modernity do not always conform to Eurocentric narratives of it, and that these gaps are revealed from the moment of colonial contact. What practices are deployed to produce contestatory forms of modernity in the South Asian context? How may the problematic of translation be invoked in understanding such practices?
Possible areas include but are not limited to:
– linguistic practices and translation
– everyday practices
Conference guidelines available at: http://southasiaconference.wisc.edu/guidelines.html
Please send abstracts WITHIN 400 words and brief bio by 20 March 2012.
