Islamic economics has made commendable progress in the last 36 years since launch of the research efforts at the nternational level in 1976. While some Muslim countries continue to pave the way for the implementation of Islamic economic agenda, the Middle East spring has created unprecedented opportunities for Islamic economics to go beyond the realms of theory into policy-making and assessment. The global financial and economic crises over the last decade have placed Islamic economists in a unique position to significantly contribute in the search for new economic paradigm. Taking the state of the art and the direction of the field into account, the organizers propose that the theme of conference is the development of the discipline and its application in the economies of OIC countries.
