I am soliciting papers on Christian responses to evolution in nineteenth-century U.S. for a panel at the January 2013 American Society of Church History conference in New Orleans. We need one more paper and a reviewer. My paper examines the creation and reception of Clark Braden’s The Problem of Problems, and Its Various Solutions, Or, Atheism, Darwinism, and Theism (1877). Brian Maine’s paper analyzes how Charles Loring Brace incorporated natural selection to understand the development of the mind and morals and how Brace, then, applied that understanding to his ideas concerning social ministry.
Scholars with germane papers should send abstracts to jamey_gorman@baylor.edu. Scholars interested in responding to the panel papers should email the same address.
