Libraries and Archives are today, as in the past, privileged platforms for the access to information and knowledge, combining a complex reality of human, material and technological factors for an inclusive exercise of social, civic and cultural rights. While managers, mediators and facilitators of the access, the information and documentation professionals are an essential anchor to the social value of information, by their capacity of building integration. At the same time, information networks and systems management is a fundamental necessity, upon which the sustainability and results of the organizations depend. In 2012, the 11st National Conference of Librarians, Archivists and Documentalists will be a space for thinking and debating about the present and the future of libraries facing a difficult context that defies concepts, methods and solutions. The conference will be held between 18 and 20 october 2012, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foudantion, in Lisbon, Portugal.
