CF Fellow- Panelists for the Social Science History Association (SSHA) Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, November 1-4.
Seeking fellow-presenters for a panel on “Modernization and Reproductive Health in 20th Century Latin America,” broadly defined. My study will focus on modernization of public health and childbirth assistance in Bolivia, and, more specifically, explore the impact two university-level obstetric-nursing programs in Sucre and Tarija had on child birthing practices in the 1960s.
I aim to encourage discussion on the relationship between public health programs and changing “politics of reproduction,” especially in regions where indigenous medical traditions were at odds with the biomedical care promoted by the state.
Please respond off-line and email paper proposals and CVs to kgallien@email.arizona.edu by February 25.
