Seeking a presenter to complete a panel on race, ethnicity, and cultural stereotypes for the American Folklore Society’s annual conference in New Orleans, LA on October 24-27, 2012. The theme for this year’s conference is “The Continuity and Creativity of Culture”, and our panel is examining stereotypes in African-American and Indian cultures with a pedagogical perspective. Specifically, we are exploring how “Blackness” and “Indianness” have disrupted cultural continuity, how these cultures have shown resilience, and how we, as educators, can help to reassure cultural stability and creativity in the classroom.
