Call for Book Chapter Proposals – Seeking Case Studies on Early Television Programming and Modernization
Editors: Stewart Anderson, Brigham Young University; Melissa Chakars, Saint Joseph’s University
Our proposed edited volume will examine the role of early television programming in promoting notions of progress and modernization. In particular, the editors are seeking case studies from around the world that demonstrate how specific governments, regions, and peoples sought to use television programs to promote visions of modernity, development, and nation-building. We anticipate that most contributors will focus on programs from the 1950s, 1960s, or 1970s, although submissions from outside this time frame will also be considered.
Interested contributors should send a 300-500 word abstract by May 15, 2012 to Melissa Chakars (mchakars@sju.edu). Accepted authors will be notified by June 15. Completed essays will be expected by September 1.
