Seeking presenters to join a 20th-century German literature panel, "From Grass’s Kaschubei to Lenz’s Northern Seascapes: Re-reading Regionalism in the Postwar German Novel," for the SCMLA conference 2012 in San Antonio. The theme of the conference is "Death, Eros & the Literary Enterprise."
Panel papers will examine regionalism in postwar German literature, particularly in so far as this aspect offers an alternative to the popular interpretive frames of Heimatliteratur, memory and Vergangenheitsbewältigung. The paper currently part of the panel concerns the embeddedness of Siegfried Lenz’s “Deutschstunde” in northern Germany’s geographic and literary landscape, with intertextual roots reaching from Theodor Storm to popular folklore.
If you are interested in joining the panel, please send a 200-words abstract to azrandall@utexas.edu by February 17, 2012. Also, feel free to contact me if you would like a more detailed description.
