Invisible Violences : the representation of conflict by liberal democracies
Workshop on Saturday 24th March 2012, 9.30am - 5pm, G09, Graduate School, University of Reading, UK.
This Workshop, organised as part of the Leverhulme 'Liberal Way of War' programme, will examine the representation of violence in liberal wars in three panels:
- 'Representing Violence and War from World War I to Iraq'.
- 'Liberal Democracies and local populations: narrating exploitation'
- ' The victims' countervoice: cultures of telling'.
Speakers will include : Joëlle Beurier, Joanna Bourke, Hilary Footitt, Bernd Greiner, Andrew Knapp, Sue Malvern, Sara Poole, Caroline Rooney Simona Tobia, and Elspeth Van Veeren.
