Call for Papers: 8th Annual Pierre Savard Conference March 21-23 2012, University of Ottawa
The University of Ottawa History Graduate Student Association (HGSA) is proud to announce that it is now accepting submissions for the 8th Annual Pierre Savard Conference. Submissions are being accepted for 20 minute individual presentations and for group panels and should include a brief CV and abstract of no more than 300 words. For panel submissions, please submit both the abstracts for each individual presentation and a brief description of the overall panel, specifying how the presentations relate to each other. Abstracts will be judged on content, their contribution to historiographical knowledge, and innovation.
Submissions will be accepted until Friday February 10, 2012 and can be sent to conferencepierresavard@aedhgsa.ca.
This year we will award a $250 prize for the best paper. Papers will be judged on both style and content, and must contain original primary research. The winning paper will be chosen following a blind review by a panel of both professors and graduate students. If you wish to be considered for this prize, a copy of your entire paper must be submitted by Thursday March 1, 2012.
Since 2005, the conference has acted as both a professional development activity and an opportunity for graduate students to present the fruits of their research across a wide range of historical themes, time frames, and geographic regions. The conference does not have a registration fee, which makes it easier for graduate students from outside the national capital region to participate.
This year’s keynote speaker is the Honourable James Bartleman, former Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. He has also served as the Canadian ambassador to Cuba, Israel, and the European Union and has served as Canadian High Commissioner to South Africa and Australia. In addition, he has been awarded nine honorary doctorates.
