Call For Panelists / Respondents
PRSA 2012, 20th Anniversary Conference, Oct. 24-28, 2012, University at Albany, State University of New York
We are looking for presenters / respondents to complete a panel entitled “Reproductive Practices in 20th century Puerto Rican Life”
At this moment, there are three panelists confirmed to present:
A specialist in rhetoric and composition examining those women who chose to be sterilized as a means by which to escape patriarchy in 20th century Puerto Rico.
A specialist in literature analyzing the works of Irene Vilar, author of The Ladies Gallery and Impossible Motherhood.
A specialist in history looking at the changes of childbirth practices in the mid-20th century, when the industrialization of the island led to the marginalization of midwifery, as childbirth moved from the home to newly-built hospitals.
Proposals including the name, email, telephone number, fax number, address, institutional affiliation, academic rank or other occupation, brief biographical notes, paper titles and abstract (maximum 300 words) should be sent by Friday January 27th to: Vanessa K. The deadline for submitting a proposal for possible inclusion in our 2012 conference is Monday, February 13, 2012. However, in order to submit a proposal you must be or become a 2011-2012 dues-paid PRSA member. The proposal submission form exists in a restricted-access area of this website. The deadline for registering as a PRSA member and paying your 2011-2012 membership dues is Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
