Call for Papers: "The German Occult"
GSA Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, October 4-7, 2012
Considered the "heartland of the witch-craze," Germany has long been associated with magic, witchcraft, and the occult. I invite proposals for a series of panels that will address the occult in Germany from the Middle Ages to the present. Possible topics include, but are not limited to, medieval necromancy and ritual magic, early modern witchcraft and folk magic, Enlightenment-era esotericism, nineteenth-century spiritualism, Nazi occultism, and contemporary supernatural beliefs in German-speaking Europe.
Please send a paper proposal of up to 250 words, along with a brief CV, to Jason Coy [coyj@cofc.edu] by February 1, 2012.
Presenters will be notified by 10 February 2012. Accepted presenters must be members of the German Studies Association or become members by 15 February 2012. Please see the GSA website (www.thegsa.org) for more information.
