Slick, the son of legendary oilman Tom Slick Sr., used his inheritance to support activities in a variety of fields, including scientific research, oil drilling, cattle breeding, and exploration. He established five research institutions, including the Texas Biomedical Research institute, the Mind Science Foundation, and the Human Progress Foundation. Slick was also co-inventor of the lift-slab method of building construction and wrote two books on world peace. The papers are available to scholars and researchers interested in the origins of the biomedical and scientific enterprise in San Antonio and South Texas, the oil and gas industry, the history of the research institutions that Slick established, along with his varied other interests.
