Held on 9-10th March 2012 at Glasgow's Mitchell Library.
Write Now is a two-day Creative Writing Conference organised by the creative writers at the University of Strathclyde and aimed at all who are interested in reflecting seriously about writing and developing new skills. This year the conference will be held as part of Glasgow’s Book Festival, Aye Write! It will bring together writers and academics in the stimulating combination of workshops, conference panels and readings, giving participants the chance to exchange ideas about creative writing, learn useful techniques and simply enjoy readings of work by established and new writers.
Day 1 is a ‘Skills day’ comprising sessions aimed at helping participants to improve their writing and market their work effectively. They will be led by experienced novelists such as Sara Sheridan, Nicola Morgan and Helen Fitzgerald along with screenwriter, Sergio Casci. There is also a chance to learn from keynote speaker Christopher Brookmyre.
Another innovation for 2012 is ‘The Marketplace’ which will showcase independent publishers and Scotland-based magazines that provide an outlet for new writers.
Day 2 is a ‘Conference Day’ at which researchers and writers will present their work in a critical context. Participants will be able to listen to panellists such as Zoe Strachan, Ewan Morrison and Alan Bissett as well as to delegates who have responded successfully to the call for papers.
