ASEEES 44TH Annual Convention November 15-18
New Orleans, LA, New Orleans Marriott
Deadline: January 14th (apologies for the very short notice!)
Translation from and into Czech
The panel will consider the significance of translation practice (from and
to Czech) and translation discourses in the Czech linguistic realm in
different historical periods, including the nineteenth century, Communism,
and post 1989. What does the contemporary translation discourse tell us
about the “visibility“ (to use Venuti’s figure) of translation to and from
Czech? Has there been a productive and innovative reflection of
contemporary translation practices in the past two decades? Which
translation theories or models are seen as relevant by contemporary
translators between Czech and other languages? How do we think today
about the most productive periods of translation (and discussion about
translation) into Czech, such as at the turn of the 19th/20th century, and
in the 1920s? Papers on any aspects of translation theory and practice
between Czech and other languages, as well as on translation theory within
the Slavic context (e.g. Roman
Jacobson), are welcome.
Please send abstract and CV by January 14th to:
