Historic Blakeley Park, Spanish Fort, AL, will host a symposium on the Civil War, 2-4 March 2012. The wide-ranging program has a special focus on the 1864-1865 campaign to capture Mobile, Alabama. Papers, presentations, workshops, demonstrations, and exhibits will cover the home front and memory/commemoration, as well as military operations in the Western Theater/Lower Seaboard and Gulf Approach. The program will consider related matters, including methods of research, interpretation, and preservation. Besides historians, presenters include archeologists, archivists, conservationists, and reenactors. Expected attendees include the general public, members of the armed forces, and ROTC cadets, as well as scholars and specialists. The last day will be on the ground, discussing specific points in the Battle of Blakely, battlefield interpretation, and preservation, along with related demonstrations. Any profits go to the Historic Blakeley Park Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charity.
