The American Studies Center of the University of Warsaw will host a conference taking a retrospective look at the 1960s. We are not looking for presentations that simply narrate the events but rather the purpose is to explore the lasting legacy of the seminal events of that decade. We invite scholars to submit proposals for individual papers or panels that contextualize the seminal political, social, and cultural events that reverberated through the remainder of the twentieth century. These events not only speak about the values, emotions and aspirations of those times but over the years they have acquired new interpretations and relevance which are of equal importance to us.
Presentations should be limited to 15 – 20 minutes to allow time for discussion. The language of presentation may be in English or Polish.
Deadline for submission of abstracts (up to 500 words): 1 March 2012. Proposals will be considered as they arrive with final notification of acceptance by 15 March. Proposals should be sent to 60sconference@gmail.com
The organizers plan to publish a volumes of selected essays based on papers presented at the conference. Presentation at the conference does not guarantee inclusion in the volume. All essays submitted for inclusion must be written in English.
