On 7 and 8 February 2012, Maastricht University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Centre for European Governance (MCEG) in cooperation with the Municipality of Maastricht and the European Journalism Centre, will organise a conference on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Maastricht Treaty. The international conference will open on 7 February with a roundtable discussion between Wim Kok (former Prime Minister and former Minister of Finance of the Netherlands), Enrique Baron Crespo (former President of the European Parliament) and Henning Christophersen (former Vice-President of the European Commission). Conference speakers on 8 February will include distinguished academics, leading experts and scholars who will discuss the historical significance and continuing relevance of the Maastricht Treaty from a historical, economic and political perspective. The conference will conclude with a keynote address by international best-selling author and academic Parag Khanna on the evening of 8 February.
