The History Graduate Student Association at Ohio University is pleased to announce its call for papers for the Seventh Annual Graduate History Conference to be held on Saturday, 14 April 2012, at the Ohio University Campus in Athens, Ohio.
The organizing committee is seeking graduate students from all disciplines to submit proposals on any historical topic. Panels will consist of three presenters, a chair, and commentator. Ohio University will provide chairs and commentators. Entire panel submissions are welcome. This is an excellent opportunity for young scholars to present their research and gain insightful comments from a diverse audience. Previous conference participants have come from universities all over the country.
The conference will feature a keynote address by Ohio alumnus Dr. Jonathan Reed Winkler, Associate Professor of History at Wright State University. Dr. Winkler is the author of Nexus: Strategic Communications and American Security in World War I (Harvard University Press, 2008), which won the 2008 Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt Prize in Naval History and the 2009 Distinguished Publication Award from the Ohio Academy of History. His current book project is an analysis of how the U.S. government coordinated changing strategic interests with evolving commercial and military communications networks across the entire twentieth century.
Student panel presentations will take place during the day on Saturday, and Dr. Winkler’s keynote address will follow late in the afternoon. The proceedings will conclude with an evening reception for conference participants and Ohio University faculty.
Interested students are asked to submit a 200 word abstract and a current C.V. to ohiohgsa@gmail.com. The deadline for abstract submissions is 1 March 2012. If selected, participants should submit their final papers along with a $20 registration fee by 26 March 2012.
