A new publication on Yayoi Kusama: call for papers
To coincide with Yayoi Kusama's major touring retrospective at the Pompidou Centre, Paris and Tate Modern, London we are seeking contributions to a new research publication on her life and work.
The publication will include contributions introducing her biography; positioning her work within the Japanese avant-garde; and exploring her status as a feminist practitioner, together with a chronology of events and exhibitions and a critical bibliography.
We are seeking additional previously unpublished papers of between 4,000 and 15,000 words for inclusion.
We are particularly interested in papers that consider:
- psychological and psychoanalytical readings of Kusama's work;
- the influence of Japanese art on Kusama;
- the impact of New York and American artists on her practice;
- Kusama's use of media;
- and Kusama's status as an artist from Japan/the Japanese diaspora.
Submissions based on unpublished conference papers, research dissertations and chapters from PhDs are welcomed.
Please submit your article, together with an abstract, bibliography, and biography, to mmunro@essex.ac.uk by December 20th.
Articles should be submitted in .doc or plain formats, single spaced, and unformatted, with the exception of titles of exhibitions and works, which should be printed in italics. References should be rendered as endnotes. Please send images as seperate .jpeg files, with a list of captions, and details of any reproduction permissions already obtained.
