Conflicts and wars, from colonial times to more recent events have been part of life in Asia. Photographic documnetation and representations of these extreme events are present since Felix Beato's first images of the 2nd Opium War in 1860. Since then, most conflicts and escalated clashes were documentaed and represented, in varying modes and styles.
This panel seeks contributions from scholars and researchers who may be interested in the topic, for a panel on the 11th East-Asian Studies Conference in Israel, that will take place on May 22-23, 2012, at Tel Aviv University.
Proposal may address, but are not limited to:
* Represntation of colonised lands
* Representation of colonising forces
* Documentary photography of war and conflict in East Asia
* Photojournalism and War Photography
* Staged photography of war and conflictual scenes
* Representations of the Pacific War in contemporary photography
