PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY TALK: 'The Wonders of Britain' by Andy Evans
Tues November 8th, 5.15pm, University of Leeds
Title: The Wonders of Britain
Abstract:
At some point before the 11th century (and possibly as early as the 9th) an unknown compiler drew together a list of natural and man-made wonders which they appended to a collection of folk-histories known as the Historia Brittonum. The individual elements in the list may date back to an even earlier period and represent the first recorded explorations of landscape processes in Britain. Across the various manuscript variants some twenty-six sites are listed. This talk will introduce the list of sites and talk about a few of the more problematic wonders, situating them within their social and scientific context.
