Moving Beyond Earth symnposium, Smithsonian Institution, Nov 18-19, 2011

On Nov 18-19, 2011, the Smithsonian Institution’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation (National Museum of American History) and the National Air and Space Museum will present Moving Beyond Earth: Innovations in Space. The symposium marks the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight (1961-2011) and examines the role of invention and technology in space history and exploration. The weekend program features a documentary film screening; academic-style panel sessions examining the cutting-edge innovations that have enabled us to leave the planet, work in space, and explore the cosmos; and an array of family-friendly, space-themed activities. All events are free and open to the public and will be held at the National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall. For full event details, see
