Moving Beyond Earth symnposium, Smithsonian Institution, Nov 18-19, 2011
|
On Nov 18-19, 2011, the Smithsonian Institution’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation (National Museum of American History) and the National Air and Space Museum will present Moving Beyond Earth: Innovations in Space. The symposium marks the 50th anniversary of human spaceflight (1961-2011) and examines the role of invention and technology in space history and exploration. The weekend program features a documentary film screening; academic-style panel sessions examining the cutting-edge innovations that have enabled us to leave the planet, work in space, and explore the cosmos; and an array of family-friendly, space-themed activities. All events are free and open to the public and will be held at the National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall.
