DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS: 15 January 2012.

The Twenty-First Annual World History Association Conference begins with registration and a reception on Wednesday, June 27th. Panel sessions and other conference-related activities commence June 28 and continue to the end of the day on Saturday, June 30th.

The World History Association invites proposals from scholars and teachers around the world for panels (up to 3 panelists, one chair, and one discussant), single papers, and roundtables (between 4 to 5 participants) on topics related to the scholarly and/or pedagogical aspects of the conference's themes, “Frontiers and Borders in World History” and “Indigenous Peoples in World History.” The Program Committee encourages mixed panels of K-12 teachers, university professors, and independent scholars in which cutting-edge scholarship is presented and then discussed in terms of how it might be introduced into the classroom. Moreover, panels devoted to research in progress and sessions dealing with the current scholarship of “big issues” in world history and how these issues might be brought to the classroom are also sought. The committee also invites proposals for sessions in which all papers and commentary have been posted on the WHA website in advance and the entire session is devoted to open discussion of the issues raised. Additionally, the conference will include a poster session, and the committee invites proposals for such poster displays and presentations (details available on the WHA website).

Prearranged panels are given priority, but individual papers will be considered. Individual papers, if accepted, will be placed into panels put together by the Program Committee. Papers and proposed panels that do not fit into the conference themes will be considered and accepted, as space allows.

Each proposal should include: a maximum 250-word abstract of each paper, a brief, one page, curriculum vitae for each participant, and a statement noting how each paper makes an original contribution to scholarship or pedagogy. Please only make A/V requests if absolutely necessary, due to costs, logistics and potential technical difficulties. As always, handouts are welcome. Please note the strict 20-minute time limit for paper presentations (for panels containing three presenters; if only two papers are presented, each may be limited to a maximum of 25-minutes).

Paper/panel submissions must be accompanied by conference registration. Organizers should ensure that all panel members are registered for the conference at the time of a proposal submission. If you do not receive funding from your institution or the occasion arises that you cannot attend the conference, you may request a full registration fee refund before April 15th,, 2012.
