Mining History Association
23rd Annual Conference
June 7-10, 2012
Prescott Resort, Prescott Arizona
The Program Committee invites proposals for individual presentations or complete sessions (including the Chair) on mining history. Presentations may focus on technology, business, the environment, social and cultural life, or any other aspect of mining, its associated industries, and its communities. There are no temporal or geographic limits. In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Arizona and New Mexico statehood, presentations addressing the last century or more of mining in the Southwest are especially welcome.
Sessions normally include three papers of twenty minutes each. Proposals should include the title of the presentation, an abstract (not to exceed one page) for each presentation, plus biographical information about each presenter, including mailing and e-mail address. Speakers must register for the conference in order to give their presentations. Please send the written proposals to the Program Chair by November 15, 2011. Submission by e-mail attachment is preferred.
The Mining History Association also has limited travel grants available for students who are accepted into the program. If a graduate or upper-division undergraduate student would like to be considered for a travel grant, please submit a cover letter addressed to the MHA Grants Committee along with your proposal to the Program Chair by the deadline. In the cover letter, an applicant should estimate his/her travel costs to Prescott, Arizona and explain what he/she hopes to gain out of the conference experience. This award is intended to help defray some of the direct travel costs to the conference. The MHA Grants Committee determines the number of awards and their value. Criteria include travel distance and travel costs, as well as an evaluation of both how much the participant will benefit from the conference and the presentation’s significance to mining history.
