The program explores the growing centrality of tourism—particularly “cultural and heritage tourism”—as an increasingly significant sector of the global economy. Students will be introduced to West Africa’s largest ethnic groups, and will gain rudimentary understanding of the Wolof language and culture. Dates: Miami, Florida: May 14 - May 19 (pre-departure lectures); Dakar, Senegal: May 20 - May 27; St. Louis, Senegal: May 27 - May 30; Sally, Senegal: May 30 - June 3; Banjul, The Gambia: June 3 - June 18. The application deadline is January 27th, 2012. Please visit Africana.fiu.edu and click the Study Abroad tab for more details.
