Increasingly, scholars in a variety of fields are ignoring the disciplinary boundaries and geographical borders that have long separated those engaged in historical inquiry. This year the Central Michigan Graduate Student Historical Studies Conference will offer scholars in the humanities and the social sciences the opportunity to explore the benefits, the challenges and the limitations of crossing borders and moving beyond boundaries. We invite proposals for papers that adopt a transnational or interdisciplinary approach to historical topics. But we will also welcome proposals that approach historical topics in more traditional ways. In keeping with the theme of the conference, we will organize papers into panels that highlight the transnational and interdisciplinary dimensions of historical inquiry.
“Borders, Boundaries and Beyond” will be held at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, on April 13-14, 2012. Cash awards will be presented for the best paper in several categories.
Those interested in presenting should send an abstract of no more than 250 words and a short CV as an attachment to histconf@cmich.edu. The title of the file attachment should be in the following format: DoeJ Proposal Title. Preference will be given to those papers received during the early submission period, which ends November 15, 2011. The deadline for regular submission is January 31, 2012.
