We are pleased to announce the publication of the fourth issue of Shift: Graduate Journal of Visual and Material Culture on 01 October 2011. Shift is an online journal created in 2008 by graduate students at Queen’s University, and is dedicated to providing a platform for current and original scholarly research by graduate students. The papers in this fourth issue represent a broad range of topics and approaches to the field of visual and material culture, and reflect the journal’s commitment to fostering cross-disciplinary exchanges between students and scholars from different institutions in Canada and the United States.
The launch of our fourth issue marks the journal’s successful shift to a new institution. This issue was produced by an editorial staff of graduate students from both Queen’s University and The University of Western Ontario. The journal’s mobility creates an atmosphere of inclusiveness and flexibility that Shift seeks to foster as a scholarly publication. To complete the first cycle as a mobile publication, our fifth issue will be produced entirely from the Western campus before beginning the transition to a new host institution in the fall of 2012.
Our fourth issue is also the first to be published on our new website. To find out more about Shift and to view our current or past issues, please visit us at http://shiftjournal.org.
The co-editors are grateful to all those who have made the publication of this issue possible.
