The discipline of Africana Studies has grown to find its place in American universities over the past half of a century. Increasingly, scholars of other disciplines incorporate the work of Africana scholars in their work exhibiting the intellectual reciprocity and respect that merits consideration. This reciprocity facilitates an expansion of respect and engagement for Africana Studies and marks areas for future growth. We seek papers that chronicle these developments and point to future trends. Some of the questions we hope papers will address are: How has Africana Studies changed the humanities? Did Africana Studies scholars invent interdisciplinarity? Has Africana Studies had a larger impact on particular disciplines? What is the epistemology of Africana Philosophy? Do the social sciences lag in incorporating insights from Africana Studies? Do Africana Studies methodologies provide a blueprint for expanding definitions of social science? What is the future of Africana Studies in the Academy?

Submit a 250 word abstract of your paper or panel/roundtable proposal and a CV of no more than 2 pages. Abstracts should include the author’s name, paper/panel/roundtable title, address, institutional affiliation, email address, and phone numbers. Please send proposals by November 1, 2011 to the following email: ndepfapp@nd.edu . Accepted proposals will be notified by December 15, 2011. All paper proposal acceptances should be prepared to submit a finished paper by March 1, 2012. Conference presenters will have the possibility of submitting their conference paper for publication and all conference presenters must be registered for the conference via the conference registration website after 11/15/11 at africana.nd.edu
