New Perspectives on the Spanish Avant-garde (1918-1936)
Editors: Eduardo Gregori (University of Wisconsin-Marathon County) and Juan Herrero-Senés (University of Colorado at Boulder)
The field of the Avant-garde has seen a growing critical attention among Hispanists. This ongoing interest has been ratified by the publication of the multi-volumed Obras completas by Ramón Gómez de la Serna, the interest in figures like Benjamín Jarnés, Francisco Ayala, Antonio Espina or Rosa Chacel; and many valuable contributions on topics ranging from the urban experience, non-Castilian Spanish cultural productions of the 1920s, media, or the controversial relationships between Modernism and Fascism, among many others.
Intended as an exploration of innovative and rigorous scholarship on the avant-garde, the editors welcome scholarly submissions on any topic from the following list:
-Theoretical approaches to Modernism and the Avant-garde.
-The reception of Modernism and the Avant-garde in Spain.
-Interrelations between literature, music, and the arts
-Catalan and Galician Avant-gardes
-The (dis)abled body
-The Politicization of the Avant-garde
-Play and sports
-Literature and journalism
-Film and Radio in the Avant-garde
-Avant-garde and popular culture
-Avant-garde and the novel
