The Italian Graduate Society at Rutgers University would like to invite you send in submissions for our bi-annual conference entitled «ImmagiNazione» which will take place on November 4th and 5th, 2011 on the Rutgers University campus.Through the centuries, an abstract image of the Italian peninsula as a geographical entity as well as a political reality is what seems to have kept the idea of Italian unity alive.
The 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy is the ideal moment to confront this concept’s past, present, and future.
Papers submitted may consider the following topics:
Image as nation
Nation at the time of globalization
Language-nation identification
Italianità as national identity
Italy as the point of arrival and departure for immigrants
Nation as image
Italy as part of contemporary tourist routes
Italian as a “take out” language/culture
The image of Italy abroad
Italy as artistic and literary destination as part of the Grand Tour.
Papers on a variety of topics related to the conference theme are welcome.
Those interested in participating should send a 300 word abstract, in the form of an electronic attachment by October 15th 2011.
