In the context of the 38th African Literature Association conference theme, “Human Rights, Literature, and the Visual Arts in Africa and the Diaspora,” we solicit papers that explore feminist/queer/gender issues as moral or human rights issues. Authors to be explored include, but not limited to, the present generation of African and African diaspora writers: Lola Shoneyin, Petina Gappah, Doreen Baingana, Sarah Oladipo Manyika, Unoma Azuah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nnedi Okorafor, Sefi Atta, Patricia Jabbeh Wesle, etc. We welcome especially papers that engage the works of these authors against the backdrop of theoretical works such as those of Oyeronke Oyewumi, Ifi Amadiume, Molara Ogundipe, etc. In what ways do these 21st century authors challenge, or enter into dialogue with the 20th century writers and scholars?
