The Department of Political Science, Christ Church College Kanpur is organizing UGC Sponsored Three days National Conference on Judicial Activism in India: Prospects, Challenges and Threats. The conference would be held on 3-5 November ,2011.
The Proposed Conference aims to focus on following themes

2. Judicial Activism in India: Prospects and Challenges in 21st century
3. Growing Threats of Judicial Activism in India
4. Judicial Universalism vs. Cultural Particularlism

There would also be Panel Discussion on Judicial Activism Vs Judicial Authoritarianism on the second day of the conference.
We are expecting a galaxy of eminent speakers, which include Professors, Jurists, Political leaders and Bureaucrats. In dealing with the complex of challenging questions, the overarching contribution of this conference will not be to produce definitive answers but to construct an analytic framework, discussed by several academicians and experts, that will enable scholars to address these and related questions in a systematic way, assessing the relative importance of the multiple factors that affect variations, and fluctuations, in the power of constitutional courts to shape national policy and individual rights, and to assess the social and cultural consequences of judicial power.
We invite academic papers on the above and related themes for presentation and discussions in the conference. The abstracts of the papers in about300-400 words can be sent by 15th of October,2011 .
