This conference sets out to examine how the theme of the flight and expulsion of Germans form central-eastern Europe in the 1944-1948 period has been depicted since the advent of German reunification in 1990. It examines a wide range of cultural representations including novels, films, memorial sites, and historiography. We believe the conference addresses an important and timely topic, given current plans to construct a "visible sign" in Berlin documenting flight and expulsion. The conference will be of interest to scholars, postgraduates and the general public. It will take place in Nottingham on the 20th and 21st of October 2011.
The keynote speaker is K. Erik Franzen (Munich)
Registration for the conference is now open at https://onlinestore.ntu.ac.uk/browse/product.asp?catid=17&modid=1&compid=1
