Call for Papers
SWTX PCA/ACA 33rd Annual Conference
celebrating "Food & Culture(s) in a Global Context"
February 8 - 11, 2012
being held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel & Conference Center
located in downtown Albuquerque, NM
The new Sports Area of the Southwest/Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association annual conference is now accepting abstracts for individual presentations and pre-constituted panels. Submissions on any topics dealing with sports and popular culture/American culture are welcomed, but papers relating the topic of sports to this 2012’s conference theme, “Foods & Culture(s) in a Global Context,” are particularly welcomed. Some topic suggestions are:
-The culture of football tailgating
-Alcohol and sports
-Competitive eating as sport/Competitive eaters as athletes
-Regional sports food culture
-Athlete food endorsements
-Anything else having to do with sports and/or sports media
Abstracts should be no more than 200 words. The deadline for abstract submissions is December 1, 2011. Pre-constituted panels should contain 3 to 4 different abstracts. All submissions must be made through the conference database at http://conference2012.swtxpca.org/.
The SW/TX PCA/ACA welcomes submissions from professors, independent scholars, and professionals. Graduate students are particularly encouraged to participate, with award opportunities for best grad student papers.
