The 3rd Annual New Mexico Oral History Forum is New Mexico’s premier annual symposium on oral history methods, practice, and projects and is open to anyone interested in developing or expanding their own projects and programs. This year’s theme, "Oral History and Public Programs: I’ve Got the Interview, Now What?" is covered in four major panels and a keynote speaker: ORAL HISTORY AND MUSEUMS: Anchor Institutions Empowering Communities; BUILDING AND MAINTAINING INDIGENOUS ORAL HISTORY PROJECTS: Exploring Community and Shared Landscapes; ORAL HISTORY AND LEGACY PROJECTS: Capturing Missing Narratives; and ORAL HISTORY AND PUBLIC ART: Re-Visioning Community Spaces. The Keynote Lunch Speaker is noted NM author and former State Historian, Robert J. Torrez, "ENHANCING THE HISTORICAL NARRATIVE: THE RIO ARRIBA COUNTY PROJECT."
Participating panelists represent the Albuquerque Museum, the Albuquerque Office of Cultural Affairs-Public Arts Program, the Artesia (NM) Mural Project, Central NM Community College, the El Paso Museum of History (TX) , the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, Institute of American Indian Arts Archives, JW Grassham and Associates, the Pueblo of Laguna-Tribal Planning Office, Pipestone Productions and Partners in Film, the Julian Samora Legacy Project, and Origins and Legacies Historical Services.
We welcome registrants from the statewide community as well as participation from the surrounding areas of Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Utah. Early Bird Registration ($50) and discounted Student Registration ($40) available until September 16, 2011 (after September 16, $100 for all categories and on-site) check or money order only. The Forum is co-hosted by Origins and Legacies Historical Services and the Albuquerque Museum, and the Albuquerque Historical Society.
